Dear BaNES Parent Carers Voice (BPCV) Members and Subscribers.
As some of you may know, the BPCV Committee has now stepped down. I am therefore announcing the closure of BaNES Parent Carers Voice forum.
This has been a very difficult decision for us all to take. We have given a huge amount to parent carer participation over the years, including through the Covid-19 pandemic, and it is now time for us to take a break and give others the chance to become more actively involved in re-establishing a Parent Carer Forum in BaNES.
We continue to care passionately about parent carer participation as a way of improving services for our children and young people. Many of the existing team hope to return to work as parent carer representatives alongside the professionals at the local authority and health once a local parent carer forum is re-established.
I want to thank all of the Parent Carers Voice Committee, Parent Carer Representatives and our Administrator, Annie for the huge efforts they have made to make things better for our families over the years. This includes continuing to attend strategic level meetings and focus groups related to services for children and young people with a wide range of disabilities, special educational and health needs right through the Covid restrictions. As you know, we are all parents of children with additional needs and have often done this while experiencing personal challenges ourselves.
I also want to thank you, our members and subscribers. Without you, there wouldn’t be a forum.
I do hope you will all join me in attending one of the forthcoming Parent Carer BaNES Information Events taking place at 11am and 7pm on Thu 8 July 2021 (Click here for more information and details of how to book). These sessions will provide a chance to find out more about how we can all work together to re-establish a parent carer forum for BaNES. Guest speaker, Jacqui Watt (Director of Swindon SEND Families Voice) will be talking about how they set up and run their forum and how they are improving services for families of children with additional needs – including talking about opportunities for parent carers in our area to liaise to improve health services across Wiltshire, Swindon and BaNES.
In the meantime, I am grateful to Annie and the Carers’ Centre for agreeing to keep the Parent Carers Voice Facebook group and website live until a new forum team are established.
Do keep checking in for updates.
